IRS Mileage Rate
The IRS mileage rate, currently 48.5 cents per mile, does not always fairly reimburse your driver population for business use of
their personal vehicles. Some points to consider:
- The IRS mileage rate is not geographically-sensitive; drivers in high-cost areas may be under-reimbursed for actual expenses incurred; drivers in lower-cost areas may be over-reimbursed.
- The IRS mileage rate is usually adjusted yearly; unstable fuel prices can change daily.
- The IRS mileage rate can be an effective reimbursement for those who do not drive a significant amount of business miles.
For some, the IRS mileage rate is a fair reimbursement guideline. For too many, however, the IRS mileage rate doesn’t accurately reflect vehicle ownership and operating expenses.
